Samlede bevilgninger til bedrifter i Møre og Romsdal er ca. 860 millioner norske kroner i lån, garantier og tilskudd. Vi har prioritert prosjekter som har positiv miljøeffekt og løser store samfunnsutfordringer, skaper eksport og nye arbeidsplasser. Ca. 70 prosent av det samlede beløpet er tildelinger til næringsområdet fiske og oppdrett.

Det er høy aktivitet og søknadsinngang for landbruk. Det er positiv utvikling i satsningsområdet tilleggsnæring og lokalmat. Skarbø Gard vant bedriftsutviklingsprisen for landbruket.

Kontoret har i 2022 hatt et større fokus på vekst, eksport og internasjonalisering gjennom et utvidet kompetansetilbud og skreddersydd rådgivning til bedrifter med gode forutsetninger for eksport.

Kontoret har jobbet aktivt med utlysningen Grønn Plattform, og vi har et godt samarbeid med Forskningsrådets regionale representant. Flere bedrifter i Møre og Romsdal er sentrale deltagere i prosjekter som er innvilget støtte, blant annet Vard Group AS, Brunvoll Maritime Group AS og Rem Maritime AS.

Vi har etablert kontorsted i Kristiansund gjennom finansiering fra Møre og Romsdal fylkeskommune.

Vi er aktiv deltaker i det regionale partnerskapet. Eksempler på aktiviteter er samlinger i det regionale Hoppid-nettverket, prosjektvurderinger i Regionalt Forskningsfond og felles arrangementer i regionene med blant annet Forskningsrådet og Møre og Romsdal fylkeskommune. Innovasjon Norge Møre og Romsdal har også et godt samarbeid med bankene i regionen.

Total grants and loans for companies in Møre og Romsdal amounted to around NOK 860 million in loans, guarantees, and grants. We have prioritised projects that have a positive environmental impact and solve major social challenges and create exports and new jobs. Around 70 per cent of the total amount are allocations for the fishing and aquaculture industries.

The level of activity and influx of applications for agriculture are high. The focus area ‘supplementary nutrition and local food’ is developing positively. Skarbø Gard won the business development award for agriculture.

In 2022, the office focused more on growth, exports, and internationalisation by expanding its expert services and providing bespoke advice for companies with a good basis for exporting.

The office has actively worked on calls for proposals for the Green Platform, and we work well with the Research Council of Norway’s regional representative. Several companies in Møre og Romsdal are key participants in projects that have received support, including Vard Group AS, Brunvoll Maritime Group AS, and Rem Maritime AS.

We have established an office in Kristiansund through funding from Møre og Romsdal County Authority.

We are active participants in the regional partnership. Examples of activities include meetings in the regional Hoppid network, project assessments by the Regional Research Fund, and joint events in the regions involving the Research Council of Norway and the Møre og Romsdal County Authority. Innovation Norway Møre og Romsdal also works well with the banks in the region.

En høyteknologisk robotlinje sørger for at skumgummi, fjærer og andre komponenter plasseres riktig og blir til en «liggeflate» i andre enden. For femti år siden ble den første skummadrassen laget, og nå produserer Wonderland over 90 000 madrasser i året i fabrikkanlegget på Åndalsnes.

- I robotlinja har vi mulighet til å produsere to-tre ganger flere madrasser om markedet skulle ønske det. Vi tenker at en vekst skal skje på eksport, der Norden og deler av EU vil være vår prioritet, sier administrerende direktør i Wonderland, Lars Stenerud.

Sengeprodusenten kan se tilbake på fem tiår med skiftende eierskap, krevende markeder og hard konkurranse. Wonderland har klart seg godt og vil nå vokse videre. De eksporterer noe til Norden allerede, men har et mål om å øke eksporten til Europa. Ved å delta i Innovasjon Norges program for eksportutvikling, 

, får de tett oppfølging gjennom hele eksportprosessen. Vi bidrar med kompetanse, rådgivning og nettverk for å sikre raskere tilgang til nye markeder.

Det er en krevende oppgave for raske robotarmer å sette sammen de myke komponentene. Robotlinjen, som skal bidra til mer effektiv drift og bedre produkter, ble realisert gjennom lån og tilskudd fra Innovasjon Norge og lån fra DNB.

- Vi gikk inn med finansiering til denne investeringen av flere årsaker. Wonderland har god utvikling i vekst og økonomi, er en viktig arbeidsgiver som sysselsetter mange årsverk, og har dyktige eiere og ledelse i selskapet, forteller finansieringsrådgiver Magne Aarsnes i Innovasjon Norge Møre og Romsdal.

Han understreker hvor viktig det er å ha en samarbeidende bank på laget. Banken har bidratt med en fleksibel driftsfinansiering i god dialog med Innovasjon Norge. Stenerud utdyper betydningen:

- Alle bedrifter som skal gjøre teknologiske eller markedsmessige løft trenger en sunn og trygg finansiering. Gjennom investeringsstøtte og lån har vi fått gjennomført viktige investeringer i IT-infrastruktur, robotisert produksjon og nødvendig bygningsmessig tiltak, sier han.

Bærekraft står sentralt for Wonderland, og produktet skal være bra for både deg og miljøet. Vaskbare tekstiler, vendbare madrasser, justerbare soner og at deler av sengen kan byttes ut skal alle bidra til at sengen får lengre levetid. Selskapet tar i bruk bærekraftige materialer og samarbeider med lokale underleverandører for at produksjonen skal bli mest mulig kortreist og effektiv.

- Vi er nå midtveis i et stort forskningsprosjekt som legger kunnskapsgrunnlaget for framtidige investeringer i folk, produkter, produksjon og marked. Prosjektet er medfinansiert av Norges forskningsråd og har med NTNU og SINTEF, samt hele verdikjeden fra råvare til kjede og via miljøselskap til nye råvarer. Når denne kunnskapen skal realiseres til produkter og verdiskaping, vil det danne grunnlag for nye søknader til Innovasjon Norge, forteller Stenerud.

A high-tech robot production line ensures that the foam rubber, springs, and other components are correctly positioned and become a ‘sleeping surface’ at the other end. The first foam mattress was made 50 years ago, and Wonderland now produces more than 90,000 mattresses a year at the factory in Åndalsnes.

“The robot production line has the capacity to produce two to three times as many mattresses should the market so wish. We think that the growth will come from exports, where the Nordic region and parts of EU will be our priority,” says the CEO at Wonderland, Lars Stenerud.

The bed manufacturer can look back on five decades of changing ownership, demanding markets, and tough competition. Wonderland has fared well and now wants to grow further. It already has some exports to the Nordic region, although it now wants to increase exports to Europe. Participating in Innovation Norway’s export development programme, 

, guarantees it close follow-up throughout the entire export process. We contribute expertise, advice, and networking to ensure faster access to new markets.

Getting fast robotic arms to put together the soft components is a challenging task. The robot production line, which was designed to help streamline operations and improve products, was realised thanks to a loan and grant from Innovation Norway and loan from DNB.

“We approved the funding for this investment for several reasons. Wonderland is developing well in terms of both growth and finances, it is an important employer that employs a lot of full-time equivalents, and the company has capable owners and management,” says Magne Aarsnes at Innovation Norway Møre og Romsdal.

He underlines the importance of having a cooperative bank on the team. The bank has contributed with flexible funding for operations, in a good dialogue with Innovation Norway. Stenerud elaborates on the signiﬁcance of this:

“Every company looking for a technological or market boost needs healthy, secure funding. Thanks to investment support and loans, we have realised important investments in IT infrastructure, robotised production, and the necessary structural building measures,” he says.

Sustainability is a key factor in Wonderland, and its products are designed to be good for both you and the environment. Washable textiles, reversible mattresses, adjustable zones, and the fact that sections of the beds can be replaced all contribute to ensuring the beds have a longer service life. 

The company uses sustainable materials and works with local subcontractors to ensure that production is as local and efficient as possible.

“We are now midway through a large research project that is developing the knowledge base for future investments in people, products, production, and markets. The project was co-funded by the Research Council of Norway and includes the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and SINTEF, as well as the entire value chain from raw materials via environmental companies to new raw materials. When this knowledge is translated into products and value creation, it will provide the basis for new applications to Innovation Norway,” says Stenerud.

C Food Norway har jobbet mye med å utnytte rester av hvitfisk til mat og helsekostprodukter siden etableringen i 2013. Ålesund-bedriften har kommet langt med å utnytte fiskerygger og svømmeblærer, og er i gang med å utvikle bærekraftige og lønnsomme verdikjeder for fiskehoder. I mange land blir nettopp hodet betraktet som den beste delen av fisken.

I prosjektet kalt «Fishhead» skal bedriften utvikle et nytt grønt forretningskonsept i tett og langsiktig samarbeid med leverandører, utstyrsprodusenter og kunder. Planen er å produsere både tørkede, fryste, salta og hermetiserte hvitfiskhoder til bruk i måltider.

- Dette er et interessant og et viktig prosjekt med stort potensial, spesielt i Asia. C Food Norway er en foregangsbedrift for bransjen, sier Kari-Anne Lade Gjørvad, kunderådgiver for Innovasjon Norge Møre og Romsdal.

Ut fra risikoen og miljøprofilen i prosjektet, har Innovasjon Norge innvilget tilskudd til både forprosjekt- og hovedprosjektfasen. Det er innvilget til sammen fire millioner kroner.

- Vi har også vektlagt at selskapet er opptatt av å involvere hele verdikjeden i utviklingsarbeidet, og at de ønsker å dele resultatene som kommer ut av prosjektet med øvrige relevante aktører i fiskerinæringen, sier Gjørvad.

- Finansiell drahjelp fra Innovasjon Norge, og deres kompetanse og nettverk er en kritisk suksessfaktor for at vi skal lykkes med forretningskonseptet vårt i det globale sjømatmarkedet, understreker Opshaug.

C Food Norway ble kåret til «Årets nyskaper» på Nordvestlandet i 2021. De rigger seg nå for vekst gjennom å tenke nytt og utvide produktporteføljen. For å realisere oppskaleringen, samarbeider de med flere forskningsinstitutter og finansieringskilder, både nasjonalt og internasjonalt. Selskapet arrangerer workshops hvor deltakere fra hele verdikjeden kan delta og bidra med innspill. De er også i gang med et scale up-program i regi av Ålesund kunnskapspark.

C Food Norway has spent a lot of time on utilising the remains of whitefish for food and health products since it was established in 2013. The Ålesund company has come a long way in using fish spines and swim bladders and is in the process of developing sustainable and profitable value chains for fish heads. In many countries, it is precisely the heads that are considered the best part of fish.

“If new seafood products are to succeed in a global market, we need to learn about the cultures and food habits of other countries. Innovation Norway’s international offices are important partners for increasing companies’ market knowledge and cultural understanding. The international offices provide the necessary help when it comes to introducing products in potential markets," says Claus Opshaug, CEO at C Food Norway.

In the project called ‘Fish Head’, the company intends to develop a new green business concept in close and long-term collaborations with suppliers, equipment producers, and customers. The plan is to produce dried, frozen, salted, and tinned whitefish heads for use in meals.

“This is an interesting and important project with great potential, especially in Asia. C Food Norway is a pioneering company in the industry,” says Kari-Anne Lade Gjørvad, customer adviser at Innovation Norway Møre og Romsdal.

Based on the risk and environmental profile in the project, Innovation Norway has provided grants for both the preliminary project phase and the main project phase. A total of NOK 4 million has been granted.

“We have also emphasised that the company is interested in being involved throughout the value chain in the development work, and that it wants to share the results that come out of the project with other relevant stakeholders in the fishing industry,” says Gjørvad.

“The financial help from Innovation Norway and its expertise and networks are critical success factors when it comes to us succeeding with our business concept in the global seafood market,” underlines Opshaug.

C Food Norway was named Innovator of the Year in Northwestern Norway in 2021. It is now gearing up for growth through innovation and expanding its product portfolio. It is working with several research institutes and funding sources, both national and international, in order to realise this scaling. 

The company arranges workshops in which participants from the entire value chain can take part and contribute input. It is also working on a scaling programme under the auspices of Ålesund Knowledge Park.

I Norge har bunnskraping av skjell vært ulovlig siden 1992, da fiskingen etter haneskjell i Barentshavet førte til fullstendig kollaps av bestanden. Tretti år senere har norske myndigheter igjen åpnet for høsting av denne kamskjell-delikatessen, takket være ny teknologi utviklet av Ålesund-selskapet Ava Ocean, tidligere TAU Tech.

En 85 meter lang skjellhøster, som er et ombygd offshore-serviceskip, setter høsten 2022 kursen mot Barentshavet og skriver historie som det første skipet med ny høstingsteknologi om bord. Båten er utstyrt med egen fabrikk og et mannskap på 24.

Havbunnen er full av sjømatarter som ikke utnyttes som de sunne og smakfulle råvarene de er. Ålesund-selskapets innovative teknologi kan skånsomt og selektivt plukke slik sjømat, og har potensial til å endre en hel industri globalt. I dag er bunnskraping den mest utbredte måten å høste på, og den metoden er svært skadelig for sårbare økosystemer under vann.

Et bærekraftig alternativ til bunnskraping

- Mulighetene er enorme fordi det ikke har eksistert reelle alternativer – før nå. I de fleste land utenom Norge og Island, drives det fortsatt bunnskraping i stor skala. Her hjemme er skjellene en uutnyttet ressurs på grunn av forbudet mot bunnskraping, forklarer Øystein Tvedt, administrerende direktør i Ava Ocean.

Kunderådgiver Kari-Anne Lade Gjørvad i Innovasjon Norge Møre og Romsdal, berømmer gründernes entusiasme og pågangsmot for å utvikle en ny og bærekraftig metode som skal høste skånsomt og i stor skala fra havbunnen.

- En vellykket løsning kan revolusjonere fiskerier verden over, og sikre full ressursutnyttelse av råstoffet uten å ødelegge områdene på havbunnen, poengterer hun.

- At vi har kommet dit vi er i dag, ville ikke vært mulig uten den støtten vi har fått fra Innovasjon Norge underveis. Vi har møtt en gjeng som har heiet på oss og løsningene vi kommer med, og som har støttet oss finansielt og med kompetanse for å realisere planene våre, forteller Tvedt.

- Det er utrolig motiverende for et selskap i oppstartsfasen å jobbe med støttespillere, som har like stor tro på det vi ønsker å oppnå som vi har selv, legger han til.

Ava Ocean fikk etablerertilskudd i 2016, og har siden den gangen mottatt totalt 18 millioner kroner fra Innovasjon Norge for å realisere det første pilotanlegget for haneskjellfiske. Våre rådgivere var tidlig inne i prosjektet og hjalp til med å definere utviklingsløpet.

- De har vært med oss hele veien. Vi hadde god dialog og veiledning fra Innovasjon Norge-teamet i to år før vi faktisk søkte om støtte, sier Tvedt.

I tillegg til innovasjonsstøtte og rådgivning, har selskapet nytt godt av finansieringssamarbeidet mellom Innovasjon Norge og Eksfin.

- Det har vært en stor styrke for prosjektet, at vi i tillegg til innovasjonsstøtten har fått lånefinansiering fra Eksfin og den lokale banken Sparebanken Vest, sier Tvedt.

Scraping the seabed to gather shellfish has been illegal in Norway since 1992 when this method of trawling for Iceland scallops led to a complete collapse of stocks in the Barents Sea. 

Some 30 years later, and the Norwegian authorities have started to permit the harvesting of this scallop delicacy again thanks to new technology developed by a company in Ålesund, Ava Ocean, formerly TAU Tech.

In autumn 2022, an 85-metre long shell harvester, a converted offshore service vessel, set course for the Barents Sea and entered the history books as the first vessel to carry such harvesting technology on board. The vessel has been fitted out with its own factory and has a crew of 24.

The seabed is full of species of seafood that are not exploited as the tasty healthy raw materials they are. The Ålesund company’s innovative technology can gently and selectively gather such seafood and has the potential to change an entire global industry. Seabed scraping is currently the most widespread harvesting method, and it severely damages vulnerable marine ecosystems.

A sustainable alternative to seabed scraping

“The opportunities are enormous because, until now, there have not been any real alternatives. Large-scale seabed scraping is still common in most countries except Norway and Iceland. Here in Norway, the shellfish is an unexploited resource because of the ban on seabed scraping,” explains Øystein Tvedt, CEO at Ava Ocean.

Customer adviser Kari-Anne Lade Gjørvad at Innovation Norway Møre og Romsdal, praises the entrepreneurs’ enthusiasm and drive to develop a new, sustainable method that will gently harvest the resource from the seabed at scale.

“A successful solution may revolutionise fisheries around the world and ensure the full exploitation of raw materials and resources without destroying the habitats on the seabed,” she points out.

“The fact is that it would not have been possible for us to get where we are today without getting support from Innovation Norway along the way. We have met a group of people who have cheered us on, as well as the solutions we have developed, and have helped us financially and with expertise to realise our plans,” says Tvedt.

“Working with supporters who believe in what we are trying to achieve as much as we do is incredibly motivating for a start-up,” he adds.

Ava Ocean received a start-up grant in 2016 and has since then received a total of NOK 18 million from Innovation Norway to realise the first pilot system for gentle shellfish fishing. Our advisers became involved in the project early on and helped define the development process.

“They have been with us all the way. We had a good dialogue and received good advice from Innovation Norway for two years before we actually applied for support,” says Tvedt.

As well as innovation support and advice, the company benefited from the funding cooperation between Innovation Norway and Export Finance Norway.

“The fact that we have received loan funding from Export Finance Norway and the local bank Sparebanken Vest has been a major strength for the project,” says Tvedt.

Verden trenger en bærekraftig energiutvikling og å gå over til fornybare energibærere, slik som hydrogen. Grunnstoffet kan holde på energi for senere bruk eller lagring, og mange vurderer det til å være framtidens beste drivstoff. Grønt hydrogen blir produsert gjennom elektrolyse drevet fram av fornybare energikilder som sol-, vann- eller vindkraft.

Stortinget har vedtatt å iverksette et nullutslippsregime i området Geirangerfjorden fra 2026. Det innebærer at alle turistbåter og ferger som skal inn i fjorden, må gå på utslippsfrie motorer drevet av hydrogen, batteri eller lignende. Nullutslippet er satt for å bevare de unike fjordene våre, og for å bidra til FNs mål om å ikke overstige 1,5 grader i global oppvarming.

Det spesielle med Hellesylt er at det der finnes tidvis mye «innstengt kraft», som vil si at det produseres mer strøm fra vannkraft enn det som kan brukes og eksporteres ut av området. Dette gjør stedet perfekt for produksjon av grønt hydrogen, og anlegget vil daglig kunne produsere og levere 1,3 tonn grønt hydrogen til markedet innen utgangen av 2023.

Hovedmarkedet til Norwegian Hydrogen er maritime kunder som ferger, yachter og cruiseskip, samt tungtransport på land. I tillegg er det et stort industrielt marked med stor etterspørsel etter utslippsfrie energibærere.

Hun legger til at for prosjekter i andre deler av Norden, som er deres fokusmarked, ønsker de å produsere der - ute i markedet.

Hydrogenanlegget på Hellesylt har mottatt 46,6 millioner kroner fra Pilot-E-ordningen. Finansieringstilbudet er etablert av Innovasjon Norge, Forskningsrådet og Enova og skal bidra til vesentlige kutt i klimagassutslipp, og en mer effektiv energiutnyttelse i Norge og internasjonalt.

- Selskapet er tidlig ute med storskala-produksjon av grønt hydrogen, og det er stor finansiell og teknisk risiko forbundet med dette komplekse prosjektet. For at det skal kunne realiseres, er det viktig at vi avlaster risikoen tilstrekkelig, forteller Alfred Øverland, innovasjonsrådgiver i Innovasjon Norge i Møre og Romsdal.

Innovasjon Norge forventer mye læring som vil være til nytte for andre aktører som skal gjøre det samme i fremtiden.

- Hydrogen blir en viktig energibærer på fartøy der driftsprofilen ikke passer med for eksempel batteri. Men prosjektet dreier seg om mer enn hydrogenproduksjon, det handler om hele verdikjeden. Vi trenger aktører som tør og vil industrialisere disse prosessene, poengterer Øverland.

Biproduktene fra hydrogenproduksjonen er varme og oksygen, og Norwegian Hydrogen er opptatt av å utnytte disse med tanke på sirkulærøkonomi og at prisen på hydrogen skal bli mer konkurransedyktig. Varmen fra produksjonen på Hellesylt vil blant annet kunne gå til oppvarming av et hotell i nærheten, og oksygenet vil bli brukt i fiskeoppdrett.

Ålesund-selskapet er en pådriver for at hydrogen skal bli sentralt i den grønne omstillingen, og de samarbeider tett med relevante næringsklynger som Ocean Hyway cluster, GCE Blue Maritime, Skift, Zero og Energi i Nord.

The world needs sustainable energy development and a transition to renewables such as hydrogen. This element can store energy for later use or storage, and many believe it is the best fuel for the future. Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis powered by renewables such as solar, hydro, and wind power.

The Norwegian parliament, the Storting, has decided to implement a zero emission regime in the Geiranger Fjord area from 2026. This means that all tourist ships and ferries entering the fjord must be powered by emission-free engines powered by hydrogen, batteries, or similar. The zero emission requirement has been introduced in order to preserve our unique fjords and to contribute to the UN goal of not exceeding 1.5ºC of global warming.

The special thing about Hellesylt is that it sometimes has a lot of ‘bottled up power’. In other words, it produces more electricity from wind power than can be used and exported out of the area. This makes it the perfect place for producing green hydrogen, and the plant will be able to deliver 1.3 tonnes of green hydrogen to the market per day by the end of 2023.

Norwegian Hydrogen’s main market will be maritime customers such as ferries, yachts, and cruise ships, as well as road haulage customers. There is also a large industrial market where the demand for emission-free energy carriers is high.

“We want the distribution to be as close as possible to the actual production. This means that ferries and ships, lorries and articulated lorries should be able to fill up in Hellesylt. We also want to be able to distribute by tanker in containers to other filling stations further away,” says Marielle Furnes Mannseth, Brand and Marketing Director at Norwegian Hydrogen.

She adds that for projects in other parts of the Nordic region, which is the company’s focus market, it wants to produce there, out in the market.

The hydrogen plant in Hellesylt has received NOK 46.6 million in funding from the Pilot-E programme. The funding programme was established by Innovation Norway, the Research Council of Norway, and Enova, and it is designed to contribute to significant cuts in greenhouse gas emissions and more efficient energy utilisation in Norway and internationally.

“We were completely dependent on support and risk mitigation when it came to starting this project and other projects. We have private owners who have provided the majority of the investment, although we still could not do it without the help of the business support system," says Mannseth.

“The company is an early adopter within large-scale green hydrogen production and there is a lot of financial and technical risk associated with this complex project. In order to realise it, it is important that we sufficiently mitigate the risk,” says Alfred Øverland, innovation adviser at Innovation Norway Møre og Romsdal.

Innovation Norway expects a lot to be learned that will be useful for other players that want to do the same in the future.

“Hydrogen will be an important energy carrier for vessels where the operating profile is not, for example, suitable for batteries. However, the project is about more than hydrogen production, it’s about the entire value chain. We need players that dare to, and will, industrialise these processes,” points out Øverland.

The by-products from hydrogen production are heat and oxygen, and Norwegian Hydrogen wants to exploit these with a view to the circular economy and ensuring that hydrogen prices are more competitive. For example, the heat from production in Hellesylt will be used to heat a local hotel and the oxygen will be used for fish farming.

The Ålesund company is a driving force behind making hydrogen a key factor in the green transition and is working closely with relevant business clusters such as Ocean Hyway cluster, GCE Blue Maritime, Skift, Zero, and Energi i Nord.
