Vekst- og gründersenter i Førde er en spesialisert enhet for effektiv førstelinjeservice inn til virkemiddelapparatet. Senteret veileder både gründere i tidlig fase og kunder som ønsker en første sparring til prosjektutvikling. Vekst- og gründersenteret forvalter også ordningen med markedsavklaringstilskudd til gründere.

The Growth and Entrepreneurial Centre in Førde is a specialised unit for efficient first-line service for the business support system. The Centre provides guidance for both early-stage entrepreneurs and customers looking for initial sparring for project development. The Growth and Entrepreneurial Centre also manages the market clarification grant scheme for entrepreneurs.

Ekteparet Lars Riiser Evju og Janet Narvestad Evju etablerte Grønn Gjødsel i 2010. Det startet med pelletert organisk gjødsel for å utnytte alle råvarene fra fjørfeproduksjonen. Siden da har de utviklet produkter og porteføljen, og fortsatt arbeidet med å gjøre et miljøproblem til en viktig ressurs. Østfold-bedriften har blitt en viktig premissgiver for utviklingen av økologisk landbruk i Norge.

Hønsegjødselen blir pelletert i eget fabrikklokale i Rakkestad, og de leverer til kunder over hele landet - innenfor både økologisk og konvensjonelt landbruk, frukt og bær, veksthus, golfbaner, gartnere og andre. Bedriften har en velfungerende produksjon og distribusjon inn mot kjernemarkedene i Norge, men ser også mot Sverige, Danmark og Irland.

- Da vi forsøkte å komme inn på det kinesiske markedet fikk vi uvurderlig hjelp av Innovasjon Norges Beijing-kontor. Vi har ingen erfaring med det markedet og hvilke handelstekniske regler som gjelder. Vi ble nesten lurt av et firma som ville kjøpe rettigheter til produktene våre, forteller Lars Riiser Evju, daglig leder i Grønn Gjødsel.

Bedriften fikk en bestilling fra en kunde i Kina. Etter at containeren var sendt og forsendelsen betalt, ba det kinesiske selskapet om mer informasjon og sendte over et kontraktsforslag. De ville gjerne selge produktet i Kina. Siden Grønn Gjødsel ikke kjente det kinesiske markedet, tok de kontakt Innovasjon Norges regionkontor i Oslo Viken som koblet på Beijing-kontoret. Finansieringsrådgiver Song Lin, som har lang erfaring med gjødselmarkedet i Kina, undersøkte selskapet. Det viste seg at det kinesiske selskapet ville produsere selv og kun bruke Grønn Gjødsel sitt varemerke.

- Hadde det ikke vært for Innovasjon Norge hadde vi ikke klart å vokse så raskt som vi har gjort. Vi har fått økonomisk støtte og rådgivning fra starten, og dette har ført til at vi har tatt noen riktige valg underveis, sier Evju og legger til:

Grønn Gjødsel har mottatt støtte fra Innovasjon Norge og Forskningsrådet over flere år. I 2009 fikk de et tilskudd for å oppskalere og effektivisere produksjonen av gjødsel, og nå har de fått muligheten til å bygge en ny produksjonslinje. De har hele veien hatt fokus på utvikling for å nå en større kundegruppe og komme ut i flere markeder.

Bedriften ble utmerket med Gründerprisen fra Sparebankene Indre Østfold i 2013. I 2015 ble de kåret til årets Gaselle i Østfold av Dagens Næringsliv. Høsten 2019 vant de den lokale Bedriftsutviklingsprisen (BU-prisen) i Østfold fra Innovasjon Norge, og i januar 2020 ble de tildelt den nasjonale BU-prisen på 250.000 kroner i Berlin.

- Grønn Gjødsel har vist vilje og evne til å stadig utvikle nye og bærekraftige gjødselprodukter basert på biologisk avfall. De viser vei for en sirkulær utnyttelse av ressursene, samtidig som de kan vise til en imponerende vekst og lønnsomhet for selskapet. De har klart å skape en spennende virksomhet med stort internasjonalt potensial, sa Kristin Willoch Haugen, direktør for Innovasjon Norge Oslo Viken i forbindelse med utdelingen av den regionale BU-prisen i 2019.

Grønn Gjødsel vurderer å bli med i strategiprogrammet til Innovasjon Norge om internasjonal markedsutvikling i 2022. Ved å være med kan de utveksle erfaringer med andre internasjonale bedrifter, og få tilgang til verktøy og metodikk for å ta bedre markedsvalg. De vil få økt markedsinnsikt, lære om rigging av egen organisasjon og utforme eksporttilbud som sørger for at løsningen svarer til behov og markedsforhold i et nytt marked. Dette kan bidra til en mer effektiv og lønnsom internasjonal vekst.

Married couple Lars Riiser Evju and Janet Narvestad Evju established green fertiliser producer Grønn Gjødsel in 2010. It started with organic fertiliser pellets designed to utilise all of the raw materials from poultry production. Since then, it has developed products and its portfolio and continued the work of turning an environmental problem into an important resource. The Østfold company has become an important premise setter for the development of organic farming in Norway.


Chicken fertiliser is pelleted in a dedicated factory in Rakkestad, and it supplies customers all over the country, within both organic and conventional agriculture, fruit and berries, greenhouses, golf courses, gardeners, and others. The company has well-functioning production and distribution processes for its core markets in Norway, but is also looking at Sweden, Denmark, and Ireland.

“We received invaluable help from Innovation Norway’s Beijing office when we tried to enter the Chinese market. We had no experience of this market and the technical trading rules that apply. We were almost caught out by a company that wanted to buy the rights to our products,” says Lars Riiser Evju, the CEO at Grønn Gjødsel.

The company received an order from a customer in China. After the container had shipped and the consignment had been paid for, the Chinese company asked for more information and sent over a contract proposal. They really wanted to sell the product in China. 

Since Grønn Gjødsel was not familiar with the Chinese market, it contacted Innovation Norway’s Oslo Viken office, which put it in touch with the Beijing office. Funding adviser Song Lin, who has long experience with the fertiliser market in China, investigated the company. It turned out that the Chinese company wanted to produce products itself and just use Grønn Gjødsel’s trademark.

“If it hadn’t been for Innovation Norway, we would not have been able to grow as quickly as we have. We have received financial support and advice from the start, and this has ensured that we have made some correct choices underway,” says Evju, adding:

“Thanks to the last allocation from Innovation Norway, which was a combined grant and loan, we have been able to develop pellets that provide more stable and rational fertilisation.”

Grønn Gjødsel has received support from Innovation Norway and the Research Council of Norway over many years. In 2009, it received a grant to scale and streamline production of fertiliser, and it has now has an opportunity to build a new production line. It has always focused on development in order to reach a larger group of customers and enter more markets.

The company was honoured with an Entrepreneur Award from Sparebankene Indre Østfold in 2013. In 2015, was named Gazelle of the Year in Østfold by the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv. In autumn 2019, it won the local Business Development Award in Østfold from Innovation Norway, and in January 2020 it won the national Business Development Award, worth NOK 250,000, in Berlin.

“Grønn Gjødsel has demonstrated a willingness and ability to constantly develop new and sustainable fertiliser products based on biological waste. It is leading the way towards the circular utilisation of resources, at the same time as it can point to impressive growth and profitability for the company. It has managed to create an exciting business with great international potential,” said Kristin Willoch Haugen, director at Innovation Norway Oslo Viken in connection with the presentation of the regional Business Development Award in 2019.

In 2022, Grønn Gjødsel was assessing joining Innovation Norway’s strategy programme for international market development. Participating in it will enable it to share experience with other international companies and gain access to tools and methods that will allow it to make better market choices. 

It would gain more insight into the market, learn about rigging its own organisation and designing its export offering to ensure that the solution meets the needs and market conditions in a new market. This could contribute to more efficient and profitable international growth.

99 prosent av dagens havvindparkar er botnfaste og ligg relativt nær land, kor det ikkje er så djupt. Lenger ute i havet ligg det eit stort potensial i vindkraft, men jo djupare havet er, desto dyrare vert havvindparkane. Det er her løysinga til Oceangrid kjem inn i biletet.

- Vår plattform er designa for å være optimal der havdjupna er 50-300 meter, seier gründer Bjarte Nordvik.

Nordvik meiner at dei har teke det beste frå fleire kjente teknologiar og sett dei saman på ein måte som vil effektivisere prosessane for korleis ein samanstillar og installerer plattformar for flytande havvind.

- Vårt konsept går ut på at plattforma i hovudsak skal settast saman av to modular, der vi kan gjere samanstillinga flytande utan at modular på fleire 1000 tonn vert løfta på land. Slik kan samanstilling av ein havvindplattform gjennomførast i løpet av eit par veker, i staden for tre til fire månader som er dagens situasjon, fortel Nordvik.

Gjennom designet av plattforma med tilhøyrande forankring og el-kabel, er det vidare lagt stor vekt på at installasjonane skal sette minst mogleg avtrykk i havet og på havbotnen elles. Dette for å sikre best mogleg sameksistens mellom havvindsutbyggingar, marint liv og annan type havbruksnæring innanfor same havområde.

Gründeren er utdanna mariningeniør gjennom sjøkrigsskulen og har tenestegjort på ubåt i ei årrekke.

- Eg har meir eller mindre vakse opp i «bølgjesonen», som har bidrege til stor interesse og respekt for dette som fagfelt.

Det er ingen tvil om at prosjektet er kapitalkrevjande med eit langt utviklingsløp, og til no har det handla om å rigge prosjektet og å starte på verifiseringa av teknologien. Oceangrid har motteke både tilskot til marknadsavklaring og tilskot til miljøteknologi frå Innovasjon Noreg.

Gjennom støtta frå miljøteknologiordninga er målet no å ta løysinga til TRL-nivå 4-5, seier Nordvik.

I tillegg til det finansielle bidraget frå Innovasjon Noreg, peikar Nordvik også på viktigheita av sparring i tidleg fase.

- Rådgjevaren har vore ein god støttespelar for oss, med korrekte og ærlege tilbakemeldingar. Han har mellom anna bidrege til å guide oss i riktig retning.

Gründeren meiner også at støtta frå Innovasjon Noreg har vore viktig i prosessen med å hente inn investorar og samarbeidspartnarar. Og det er ikkje kven som helst dei har fått med seg.

- Når ein snakkar med investorar, så er det eit kvalitetsstempel å vise til at ein har motteke støtte frå Innovasjon Noreg. Vi har fått med oss fire solide investorar; Valinor, Mosvold Kapital, Zukunftige Werte og Fjord Base Holding. Med dette har vi med oss eit energiselskap som kan industrien, vi har dei som skal bygge og stå for logistikk, og så har vi ein finansiell investor.

Dersom Oceangrid lukkast med å få verifisert konseptet i miljøteknologi-prosjektet, er neste mål å søke om EU-finansiering til å bygge pilot.

Finansieringsrådgjevar Kjell Haganes ved Innovasjon Noregs Vestland-kontor er ikkje i tvil om at det er mogleg for Oceangrid å nå målsetnadane.

- Det er dyrt å bygge ut havvind, spesielt flytande. Dette prosjektet har potensialet til å redusere kostnad per produsert kilowatt betydeleg. Her snakkar vi om et sterkt team, som har fått med seg gode samarbeidspartnarar, og som er audmjuke og lyttar til dei råda dei får undervegs.

Haganes peikar vidare på at løysingar innanfor havvind er noko som vert etterspurt av norske myndigheiter, og at Oceangrid sitt prosjekt er veldig relevant i denne samanheng.

- For Innovasjon Noreg er dette ein draumekunde, seier Haganes.

99 per cent of current offshore wind farms are fixed to the seabed and are located relatively close to shore where the water is not that deep. Further out to sea, wind power has great potential, although the deeper the sea, the more expensive the offshore wind farms have been. This is where Oceangrid’s solution comes into the picture.

“Our platform is designed to be optimal where the ocean depth is 50-300 metres,” says entrepreneur Bjarte Nordvik.

Nordvik believes that Oceangrid has taken the best from several well-known technologies and put them together in a way that will streamline the assembly and installation processes for floating offshore wind.

“Our concept is based on the platforms mainly being assembled from two modules where we can carry out the assembly while floating and without the modules that weigh several thousand tonnes having to be lifted on land. In this way an offshore wind platform can be assembled in the space of a couple of weeks, instead of three to four months, which is the current situation,” says Nordvik.

When the platform and associated anchoring and electrical cables were being designed, there was an emphasis on ensuring that the installations will have the least possible impact on the ocean and the seabed. The aim is to ensure the best possible co-existence between offshore wind developments, marine life, and other types of ocean industries in the same ocean area.

The entrepreneur trained as a marine engineer at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy and served on submarines for years.

“I have more or less grown up in the ‘wave zone’, which has contributed to a great interest and respect for this as a field."

There is no doubt that the project is capital intensive with a long development path, and up to now it has been about rigging the project and starting verification of the technology. Oceangrid has received a market clarification grant and an environmental technology grant from Innovation Norway.

"I do not believe we would be where we are today without the support we got from Innovation Norway at an early phase. We spent the market clarification grant on clarifying the technology and the market, as well as on forming a realistic picture of how future floating offshore wind projects will be carried out from the design phase to assembly, installation, operation, and decommissioning. With support from the environmental technology programme, the goal is to take the solution to TRL level 4-5,” says Nordvik.

In addition to the financial contribution from Innovation Norway, Nordvik also pointed to the importance of sparring at an early phase.

“Our adviser has been a good source of support for us with correct and honest feedback. Among other things, he has helped to guide us in the right direction.”

The entrepreneur also believes that the support from Innovation Norway has been important in the process of bringing in investors and partners. And it is not just anyone that they got to join them.

“When we talk about investors, having received support of Innovation Norway is a mark of quality. We have been joined by four solid investors: Valinor, Mosvold Kapital, Zukunftige Werte, and Fjord Base Holding. With this we have an energy company that knows industry, we have those who will build and be responsible for logistics, and we also have a financial investor.”

If Oceangrid is successfully able to verify the concept in the environmental technology project, the next goal is to apply for EU funding to build a pilot.

Funding adviser Kjell Haganes at Innovation Norway’s Vestland office has no doubt that Oceangrid can achieve its objectives.

“Offshore wind is expensive to develop, especially the floating kind. This project has the potential to signiﬁcantly reduce the cost per produced kilowatt. We are talking about a strong team here, which has gained good partners, and who are humble and listen to the advice they receive underway.”

Haganes points out that offshore wind solutions are in demand from Norwegian authorities, and that Oceangrid’s project is highly relevant in this context.

“This is a dream customer for Innovation Norway,” says Haganes.
