Did you know that Norway has been conducting space research for almost 60 years? Andøya Space is expanding in order to launch satellites and take an even larger share of the international market. We are hoping for a new industrial and export adventure!
Rockets have been launched from Andøya in Vesterålen since 1962.
“Norway is actually an old astronautics nation, and Andøya Space now has plans to establish a new launch site for small satellites”, says Håkon Haugli, CEO of Innovation Norway.
The space industry is growing rapidly
Andøya Space is currently working on space research, teaching, drones and testing new technology.
“The space industry is the fastest growing industry in the world at the moment. It is believed that there will be a fourfold increase in turnover within the space industry over the next decades leading up to 2040. We intend to be part of this development”, says Odd Roger Enoksen, CEO of Andøya Space.
One of the great advantages of Andøya is that the rockets being launched have an unimpeded flight path. No land and not much air traffic get in the way. NASA is currently Andøya Space’s main customer.
“The things taking place at Andøya will create new companies in the margins of what is happening here, and will become a major and leading space technology environment. It really is exciting”, says Haugli.
