Hedmark 2006

Hedmark is the county in Norway that covers the greatest area, a total of 27,388 square kilometres. Four of the municipalities in Hedmark are as large in area as some counties, such as Vestfold.

In 2006 there was a high level of entrepreneurial activity in the entire county, and 14% growth in the number of business start-ups was registered.

Hedmark is the largest county in Norway with regard to potato and poultry production, and it has the largest active agricultural area. The value of forestry is twice as great as the number two county, Oppland.

An increasing number of farms in the county are focusing on tourism and small-scale food production to exploit and commercialise the resources of agricultural property.
