Hedmark 2006
Hedmark is the county in Norway that covers the greatest area, a
total of 27,388 square kilometres. Four of the municipalities in
Hedmark are as large in area as some counties, such as Vestfold.
In 2006 there was a high level of entrepreneurial activity in the
entire county, and 14% growth in the number of business start-ups
was registered.
Hedmark is the largest county in Norway with regard to potato and
poultry production, and it has the largest active agricultural
area. The value of forestry is twice as great as the number two
county, Oppland.
An increasing number of farms in the county are focusing on
tourism and small-scale food production to exploit and
commercialise the resources of agricultural property.
