Nordland 2006
It is satisfying to note that the economy in Nordland also showed
growth in 2006. The enterprises in Nordland have thus experienced
a continuous period of economic expansion over the past four
years, and the level of activity is increasing to record levels.
The export-oriented enterprises can once again exploit their
markets and capacity and make Nordland this region’s export
locomotive.
Even though business and industry are doing well now, it is
important to focus on innovation and restructuring with a view to
new products and markets. This competition is demanding. For many
small and medium-sized enterprises in the county, it is often a
major challenge to set aside adequate resources for this. In the
long term this will often be decisive for value creation and
employment in the county.
Exports from Nordland totalled NOK 15 billion in 2006. This is an
increase of 18% from 2005. Travel and tourism companies in the
county have reported approximately the same number of bed nights
in 2006 as in 2005. The seafood sector has experienced a
continuous upswing throughout all of 2005 and 2006, with growth of
17% in 2005.
