Nord-Trøndelag 2006
Business and industry in Nord-Trøndelag experienced a good year in
2006 just like the rest of the country.
There was a high order volume and substantial activity in most
industries. With the already low unemployment level, this resulted
in manpower shortages. Many enterprises solved this problem by
labour immigration, but finding manpower with the right competence
will be the greatest challenge in the future. This applies both
nationally where Norway must compete with other countries, as well
as regionally where Trøndelag must compete with the rest of the
country. The high level of activity is also starting to result in
longer delivery times in certain industries.
The demand for loans and grants was even greater in 2006 than in
2005, which was a record year at the time. Combined grants
totalled almost NOK 300 million, which was an increase of NOK 100
million over the previous year. Adjusted for the technical change
in the method used to account for interest support in agriculture,
the increase is around NOK 40 million.
The high level of research and development contracts was also
satisfying in 2006. These are contracts where an enterprise
develops a new product or service in cooperation with a future
customer, which may be a public agency or another enterprise. An
enterprise from Nord-Trøndelag has entered into a contract with a
foreign enterprise for the first time as part of this scheme. A
total of five such contracts were entered into in Nord-Trøndelag
with a combined grant of around NOK 7 million. This is
substantially more than in recent years.
